Frequent questions

How do I download the app?

You can download our app from the App Store for iOS devices or the Google Play Store for Android devices. Simply search for the app by name "Pillar" or "Pillar UK" and tap the "Download" or "Install" button.

Is there any basic knowledge I should have when starting my credit journey?

There are a number of things you can do to help improve your credit score. We will send you an alert to let you know of any factors which are having an impact on your score and will suggest actions you can take to help improve your score.

Here are some common actions you can take when you are just starting out:

  • ensure you’re enrolled on the Electoral Register
  • pay your credit commitments and other bills on time
  • don’t exceed your agreed overdraft or credit limits
  • close any credit accounts you no longer use or need
  • settle any outstanding public data records as soon as you can.
Why is my credit report important?

Your credit report is one of the most important things that can affect your ability to achieve your financial goals. Any time you apply for a financial product such as a loan, credit card or a mortgage to buy a home - a lender will look at your credit report to decide whether or not to lend to you.

Can you check your own credit score without affecting it?

When you sign up for Pillar Monitor, a “soft search” will be left on your credit file. A soft search lets an institution see a basic overview of your credit history. Soft searches will not harm your credit rating or affect the way lenders see you, so they will NOT affect your ability to get credit.

They can also be called 'quotation searches' or 'personal searches'.

As an immigrant / expat to the UK, can I still get Pillar and the Pillar Cards?

Yes you can! In fact that’s the reason Pillar exists. We’ve been there, starting our credit journey all over again when arriving in the UK and we’ve decided to fix that. If your credit file is ‘thin’ in the UK we have other ways to assess your profile to find you a way to start building a credit footprint in the UK, we can even account for your credit score in your country of origin!
